STATIONS

Some of the many slave era activities, demonstrations and exhibit items are as follows:

Ol' fashion quilting circle (Visitors can participate)
Frederick Douglas (his views on abolition)
Songs that were used as codes to aide in the Underground Rail Roads
History of slave quilting (significance of the North Star).
Making of lye soap and its uses
Vegetables and their uses such as cabbage sweet potatoes, grits, etc.
Hoe Cake (dramatization of how slaves used a garden hoe to cook)
Fried Dough (If cooking is permissible)
Yule log and gifts at Christmas time
Ole Negro Spirituals and a Dance called the Cake Walk
Superstitions of quilt making
Black pot or cauldron and its usage from Africa to America
Clothesline display (sisters will give detail description of the quilts and stories behind them
Africa, to the new world Griots told stories to the old as well as the young.  Stories were handed down for many generations such as "Ole Brer Rabbit"
Follow The Drinking Gourd ( A story and song of Slaves and how they used the stars to guide them north to freedom)
Sweet Claire and the Freedom Quilt (A young girl makes a map disguised as a quilt that leads her and others to freedom)
Harriet Tubman - A dramatization of her daring flight to freedom
Display of Slave artifacts and their uses
Replicas of slave quilts and crafts for sale (if permissible)
Games and songs with audience participation

We have performed for churches, elementary and high schools, colleges, Quilting guilds, museums, libraries, benefit dinners, educators, county fairs and others.  Our popularity has come about from audience appeal, and while we do not advertise, the majority of contacts are through referrals.  Our shows are in constant demand.
